Day Four – Love is Thoughtful January 21, 2010

What does it really mean to be thoughtful?  It is defined as demonstrating thought or careful consideration; demonstrating kindness or consideration for others.  Seems simple enough – right?  Yet, it does appear that this is an area where many of us fall short.  Every day life tends to consume us, whether it is our job, the kids, our friends or even the bus driver.  We just don’t have time to really think about what it means to be thoughtful.  When was the last time that you did something for your wife with no regard to self.  Just sat down and listened to her tell you all about her hectic day and then without her asking, took her shoes off and rubbed her feet.   How about you actually telling him how you feel about a situation instead of speaking in riddles and rhymes, and then getting mad because he just does not get it.  It only leaves him feeling extremely baffled about why you are upset.  We flawed humans have some peculiar ways of expressing ourselves, and often it is not in the most thoughtful or sane way. When we are thoughtful, it opens up positive doors of communication and we are able to bridge the gaps in our relationships by just being considerate of our partners.  We all struggle with how to really show the people in our lives that we love them, how about starting at just being thoughtful and listening without regard to what is brewing in our own mind.  I will practice this attribute today with everyone that I come in contact with and that includes those in my emails as well.  Do I have any takers on this one…

A few critical thoughts:
Husbands should listen to their wives and learn to be more thoughtful. Thoughtfulness builds bridges on both sides. Women often times speak in riddles and not exactly what is on their minds whereas men are more literal and just say exactly what they mean.  Women think relational and are able to juggle multiple things: kids, cooking, cleaning and work.  Men sometimes are one-dimensional and often struggle in the area of thoughtfulness.

Biblical Verse(s):
Psalms 139: 17-18 – How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.
Philippians 1:3 – I thank my God for all the memories I have of you. (GOD’S WORD ® Translation)

Challenge:
Contact your mate today for no specific reason to find out how they are doing, and to see if there is anything that you can do for them.

Q: How can thoughtful behaviors and actions become a part of your everyday life?

Have a blessed day, I love you!

Thoughfulness is definitely my honey’s area. When it snows she’s out early shoveling so we can get to our cars and start the day. When a friend has a request she is there. She is always thoughtful of others and quick to offer information, a shoulder and resources. I need work in this area. I’m sure there are times that I am thoughtful as a by product of my kindess but it is not intentional. For me patience and kindness is easier. Therefore today I will be thoughful of my partner. Ask her about her day. Buy her favorite snack and let her pick the TV program. She loves that Extreme boxing…I’ll sit and look interested..lol!

Got my feet done. Got some extra attention. Got a long walk, around the park, after dark, found a spot for us to talk, conversation, verbal elation, stimulation, shared our situations etc.. etc.. etc.. Im still looking for a reason to peel rubber. I felt like an idiot when I realized that someone honestly thought about me without a special request form. I will make it my duty to be more attentive to the things that people want to do for me in my life. Also, I need to stop acting like it is no big deal when someone cares. Just waiting for the bottom to fall out most of the time, I guess. What if it doesnt? Then what? Every moment counts. And every deed should be recognized.

Hey Cat, what are some of the thoughtful things that you have done for others and asked nothing in return? Care to share, and thanks for making us aware of the fact that we too should just accept thoughtful acts without wondering, “what do they expect from me?”

Just a little food for our thouhts..maybe the rubber was peeled a long time ago and the bottom only falls out because we wait for it to do so…you have reminded me to wait for the long walks instead…whatever it is Let it Be, Let it Be, whatever it is just Let it Beeeeeee!

I was in a relationship based on the I not the we. My parnter only cared about self. Now that really hurts it’s like a 70/30 relationship. The Hard part for me was just letting go and moving on. Now I have walked away feeling stressed and depressed. But thank God for my faith. I’ve resolved to say If someone can’t treat you right, love you back, and see your worth LET IT GO… no more holding on to past hurts and pains.

I Shared all I had to give got NOTHING IN RETURN.

poetiscian - January 21, 2010

There will be a lot of times when we don’t get anything in return, the simple act of giving of ourselves is enough. It is not about “us” or “them” it is about staying true to what God expects of us for He is our reason for being. Do things from your heart without any expectation of receiving anything, and I do mean anything in return. Your acts of thoughtfulness will not be done in vain, for the person who is right for you will be for you and then you will be ready to receive them, for you will already know how to show kindness, patience and love.

Thank you for sharing with us for it takes a great deal of love to open up to people whom you do not know. Please keep blogging with us!

I didn’t know this car had power windows… True thoughtfulness became a way of life once I realised how much WE lacked it as a whole…so stuck in the society of, what have you done 4me lately…it was no longer enough to only do it behind closed doors or for the ones I loved…I had to learn how to translate the act of kindness and awareness to the everyday stranger. The man behind the counter serving his 50th customer of the hour. The elder walking down the street. Openning the door for a man and allowing HIM to walk in first… Telling the woman walking past you how devine she looks…paying for the person behind you at the movies when God alots you the means to do so… So often we take kindness as a sign of overall weakness and I struggled with that for years. Today I now know that spirit guides you to the ones that overstand a genuine moment…and those that don’t will fall off. So to everyone that reads this and says that’s just not who I am…try it and see how far a hello can go!!! Goodnight Sweet Souls…Dream in color!!

Thank you for letting those windows down and allowing the fresh air to come right in. Can you see my hair just blowing in the wind, do you see me squinting just to get a glimpse of the sun, oh how I am taking in the magnificient view. It is wonderful to be in California.

We are learning from you – the next time I am on the phone with that pesty bill collector, I will be more thoughtful because they are just doing their job. That too is a relationship, and that billed was my doing, so I should deal with it in the most respectful way.

Show thoughtfulness in every action until it just becomes second nature. Thank you for giving us a snack before bedtime!
